– Spain – December-January 2023/2024 training on anonymization techniques, fieldwork at the Institute of Oncology, visiting at the Polytechnical University of Catalunya
Prof. Jordi Forné served as my supervisor during the secondment in Barcelona. He invited me to give a seminar at his department, trained me on anonymization techniques, introduced me to all of his colleagues at UPC, involved me in three (still ongoing) research projects related to health data reuse, and also involved me in the supervision of a master’s student. He also encouraged me to apply to the Ramon y Cajal fellowship with the intention of hiring me with a tenured position in his group if the funding is secured.
Prof. Dr. Victor Moreno was equally supportive during my stay in Barcelona, hosting me for the fieldwork in the hospital he directs. He trained me in health data processing, patiently explained to me their processes and procedures, introduced me to his colleagues, including the data protection officer, helped me with all the bureaucratic documents, and invited me to give a seminar in his department.
– Netherlands- April 2024 – secondment at e/MTIC, Eindhoven, and training in qualitative research methodology
– Visiting period and fieldwork at the Department of Medicine, University of Padua, March 2024
The secondments at UPC and Eindhoven University were particularly valuable for acquiring specialized skills. At UPC I deepened my expertise in anonymization techniques tailored for health data, directly applying this knowledge in the development of the FanFAIR tool and the project’s broader theoretical framework.
At Eindhoven University, supervised by Prof. Carola Van Pul, I was trained in process tracing and the use of causal inference methods, which enhanced the methodological rigor of the empirical and normative components of the project.
